Welcome to the official website for the John Burns School Board Campaign!
Why are you running for the school board?
The main reason and motivation in my running for school board is to add value. I will provide direction and leadership to help the school district exceed their goal of providing excellence in academics. This will include a strong commitment in working to make sure all students have the resources and opportunity to gain a solid educational foundation in every core area and to prepare them for transition and success.
In your opinion, what are the most important issues facing the district?
There are several import issues that face this school district. To begin with, there is a lack and inefficient use of resources. This results in the school district to lag behind others in terms of standards for academic excellence and achievement. In addition, the lack of resources has equated to a reduction in staff therefore creating larger class sizes. In turn, this causes issues with the physical facilities being at capacity and providing a comfortable, proactive learning environment for all students and staff. Other issues include:
- · Providing an excellent and expanded curriculum that fosters education and learning.
- · Updating technology to teach students the skill set that will prepare them for the future.
- · Modifying the transportation system to provide more frequent and safe busing options students to school.
How do you plan to address those issues?
I plan on acting upon and addressing these critical issues by leading and providing factual information to the district’s leadership. This includes implementing strong financial accountability standards and supplementary details to our community. It is important that money spent aligns with the mission and values of the district and community. The money spent has to be properly utilized within the school district to create an atmosphere of constant improvement, effectiveness and efficiency which in turn will bring a higher standard of learning to all students.
Do you have or have you had, children or grandchildren attending Centennial Schools?
Yes. I have had two children graduate from Centennial High School and one starting High School.
